Stalks and Blossoms Scarf

This lovely spring scarf is inspired by the sturdy hyacinth that signals the arrival of a new season. Choose an exciting shade of hand-painted Alchemy Silk Purse to compliment this elegant pattern.
Materials and Notes
MATERIALS
US size 8 needles or correct size for gauge
2 skeins Alchemy Silk Purse (We used Cherry Tart)

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
6 inches wide and about 60 inches long (or however long you'd like)
GAUGE
5 stitches per inch in pattern

TERMS AND TECHNIQUES
block - even out of tension of knitted fabric by stretching. For a how-to, visit our Blocking Tutorial.
K2tog (knit two together) - decrease one stitch by knitting two stitches together
psso (pass slipped stitch over) - decrease one stitch by lifting it over the stitch to the left and off the right needle
sl (slip) - transfer one stitch from the left to the right needle without knitting it
ssk (slip, slip, knit) - decrease one stitch by slipping two stitches from the left needle to the right as if to knit (needle goes into the front of the stitch); passing the twisted stitches back to the left needle; then knitting them together
yo (yarn over) - increase one stitch by wrapping yarn around the right needle in a counter-clockwise motion (from back to front to back), then continue working, knitting the increase on the next row as a regular stitch
Stalks and Blossoms Scarf Pattern

Cast on 29 stitches.
Row 1: Purl.
Row 2: K2tog, yo, *k3, yo, k1, sl1-k2tog-psso, k1, yo, k3*, yo, sl1-k2tog-psso, yo, repeat from * to *, then yo, ssk.
Row 3: Purl.
Row 4: K2tog, yo, *K4, yo, sl1-K2tog-psso, yo, repeat from * 2 more times, K4, yo, ssk.
Repeat Rows 1 - 4 until scarf reaches desired length.
Bind off loosely and weave in ends. Block lightly.
